In a shark attack on the US East Coast, a 17-year-old has been seriously injured and has lost part of her leg. The young woman was attacked by the shark on Fort Macon Beach in the state of North Carolina, as her family reported on Monday. According to media reports, her father ran into the water and put the animal to flight.
The adolescent was flown to hospital with severe injuries to his hands and his left leg. The doctors had to amputate her leg above the knee. The adolescent later explained that she knew she was going to face more surgery. However, she wanted to remain optimistic and was grateful that the shark attack was not worse.
Sharks “good people”
Her mother wrote on Facebook that her daughter had not lost her sense of humor despite the severe injuries. She wanted everyone to know that despite the attack, sharks are “good people.”
Shark attacks in the US are very rare. According to the International Wildlife Museum in Tucson, Arizona, the risk of being attacked by a shark is one in four million.
